Mochakk’s Musical Journey: Bridging Brazilian Roots with Global Vibes

On a warm Brazilian night, Mochakk stands behind the decks in Sorocaba, fingers nimbly adjusting knobs as music and lights weave together a unique sensory experience. At just 26 years old, this Brazilian DJ and producer is not only speaking through beats but telling a global story shaped by his rich musical background and cultural sensitivity.

When a 49-second TikTok clip propelled him to fame, few could guess the diverse musical upbringing behind it. In the video, Mochakk’s wrists move rapidly, his lips syncing perfectly to the Tech House hit “Role Play” by DJ PAWSA, while his dance moves reveal traces of hip-hop street style—roots tracing back to his childhood immersion in music and dance.

“My childhood was always surrounded by music,” he recalls. “My dad was into rock—bands like Led Zeppelin and The Rolling Stones filled our home. My mom loved pop classics from the ’70s and ’80s, those melodies still feel so warm to me.” Growing up in such an environment, music became a language he naturally spoke.

Dance opened another door for him. Learning breakdancing introduced him to hip-hop and rhythm creation. “Back then, I realized music wasn’t just about listening—it was about feeling and expression.” That feeling later blossomed into his unique approach to electronic music.

When asked about his style, Mochakk resists being boxed in. “Focusing on just one genre can feel limiting. For me, I listen to everything—from Brazilian funk and soul to electronic and jazz. Every style has its own story and spirit. Staying open-minded helps me discover new worlds.” His EP From the Stars captures this perfectly, sampling the British synth-pop band RAH Band’s classic “Messages from the Stars” and blending dreamy reverberated vocals with a two-step garage beat, creating a sound both nostalgic and fresh.

But his passion extends beyond his own tracks—he’s bringing it back home to Sorocaba. To tackle Brazil’s chronic shortage of club spaces, Mochakk founded OBLIQO, a music venue aiming to bridge local talent with the world. “I often get music from young producers that blows me away. So my friends and I decided to give back to the community.” OBLIQO supports emerging local DJs and has hosted international artists like Seth Troxler and Lovefoxy, breaking down borders between scenes.

“For me, growing together and encouraging each other is crucial. Otherwise, we’d miss so much potential.” This spirit fueled his first-ever Mochakk Calling festival in Malta, featuring global stars like Bonobo, Haai, and MALL GRAB alongside Brazilian funk heroes DJ Badsista and the Solarce Brothers. Two days of sunshine and dance perfectly reflected his diverse inspirations.

Talking about it all, Mochakk smiles. “Partying is both work and relaxation for me.” He shares how on rare nights off, he loses himself on the dance floor. “Like at an underground party my friend threw in Chicago—we’d lose track of time, just moving to the music. Being surrounded by friends and the beats, everything felt pure.” That simple joy fuels his dedication to music.

As the conversation winds down, he says, “I want my music and efforts to showcase Brazil’s rich culture while showing how different styles can come together and create magic. Music is how I talk to the world.”

Mochakk’s story isn’t just about rhythms and melodies—it’s about openness, community, and a young soul telling stories through sound. Maybe that’s why listeners from all over the world keep coming back for more.
